Samdech Techo Hun Sen Urges Provincial Authorities to Prioritise Support for Military Families

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, June 11, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has urged provincial authorities to prioritise welfare support for soldiers’ families, veterans and relatives of fallen troops during a working visit to Banteay Meanchey province.
Speaking Thursday at the Provincial Hall, Samdech Techo met more than 1,000 members of provincial, municipal, district, commune and sangkat councils, alongside leaders of departments and institutions.
He instructed officials to ensure families of soldiers stationed along the border receive adequate assistance and recognition for their sacrifices in defending national territory.
He said local administrations should take practical steps to implement what he described as a “people’s national defence doctrine,” including improved welfare support for military households.
He also called for stronger public service delivery, particularly in resolving land disputes quickly and fairly, and encouraged greater use of out‑of‑court mechanisms.
The Senate president urged authorities to intensify efforts against crime, including drug trafficking, theft and cybercrime, while strengthening protection of natural resources.
He reminded officials to act as “servants of the people” and avoid abuse of power, stressing that governance must be efficient, transparent and responsive.
The meeting formed part of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s nationwide programme of provincial visits aimed at strengthening communication between national leadership and local administrations. It was his 14th mission and covered his 16th province since the initiative began.
Provincial authorities said Banteay Meanchey, with nine districts and municipalities, recorded GDP of US$1.91 billion in 2025, driven by agriculture, industry and services.
