PHNOM PENH, July 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Defence Ministry announced that four soldiers were wounded by shrapnel following an explosion during a patrol near the Thai border in Oddar Meanchey province.

According to the ministry, the incident occurred at approximately 12:35 local time on Sunday in a cashew plantation in Banteay Ampil district. Cambodian troops were conducting a routine patrol when they encountered a Thai military unit on the opposite side of a barbed‑wire fence.

Shortly after both patrols had passed one another, an explosive device detonated behind the Cambodian unit, injuring four personnel.

The ministry said the wounded soldiers were receiving medical treatment and emphasized that frontline command and expert teams had launched a “comprehensive and meticulous” investigation to determine the cause of the blast. It did not attribute responsibility for the explosion.

In its statement, the Defence Ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to existing border agreements with Thailand, including a joint statement issued in December 2025 by the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee and a peace declaration signed in October 2025.

Officials stressed that Cambodia remained determined to implement all relevant accords aimed at restoring stability, normalcy, and long‑term peace along the frontier.

The incident comes against a backdrop of continued tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border, where both sides have previously accused each other of ceasefire violations. As of Monday, Thai authorities had not publicly commented on the latest claim.
