Cambodia Reaffirms Support for ASEAN Ceasefire Observer Mission

SIEM REAP, July 27, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence says senior military officials have reaffirmed support for an ASEAN observer mission monitoring the ceasefire along the Cambodia–Thailand border, as the team pledged continued commitment to ground operations.

Lieutenant General Pov Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and head of Military Region 4, met the ASEAN Observer Team–Cambodia on Monday in Siem Reap.

The delegation was led by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon of the Philippines, who serves as Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia.

The ministry said Pov Heng welcomed the delegation to Military Region 4 headquarters, thanked them for their role in promoting peace and stability under ASEAN, and briefed them on recent border developments.

Commodore Dizon expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s facilitation of observation, verification and reporting missions since the ceasefire took effect in December 2025. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to monitoring and reporting on the situation along the border.

The ministry said Cambodia continues to support the observer mission’s work, describing it as vital to promoting transparency, building trust and protecting civilians.

It added that Cambodia also welcomes participation from friendly nations in supporting peace‑building efforts.

The statement reiterated the Royal Government’s commitment to implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee signed on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement of October 26, 2025, and other relevant accords.

The ministry said the pledge was intended to support recovery, restore normal conditions along the border and promote lasting peace and stability.
