Cambodia, Thailand to Hold High-Level Border Talks in Kuala Lumpur Amid Hopes for Peace and Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Oct. 22, 2025) — Cambodian Defense Minister Tea Seiha said he expects “fruitful outcomes” from the upcoming high-level border talks with Thailand, scheduled for Oct. 23 in Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking ahead of the 2nd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, Seiha said Cambodia hopes for a friendly and constructive dialogue rooted in mutual respect and past agreements.

A key agenda item is the removal of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment, to be carried out under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team.

Other topics expected to be discussed include humanitarian demining and enhanced cooperation to combat transnational crimes, such as online scams.

“This meeting is an important step toward strengthening peace, cooperation, and development along the border,” Seiha said. “We are committed to ensuring a swift return to normalcy in all areas of concern.”

The Special GBC serves as a bilateral platform for addressing security and border issues between Cambodia and Thailand.

The upcoming session marks the second such meeting, following earlier efforts to improve coordination and resolve longstanding challenges along the shared frontier.
