Oddar Meanchey, July 15, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian and Thai military officials held an informal border meeting Wednesday aimed at reducing tensions and addressing issues along their shared frontier, Cambodia’s Defence Ministry said.

The talks took place at the Choam‑Sangam International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province between representatives of Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Region. Brigadier General Nith Narong led the Cambodian delegation, while Major General Kampanat Waphansu headed the Thai side.

The ministry said the meeting was part of regular coordination efforts designed to prevent misunderstandings and ease friction along the border. Cambodia raised concerns over land clearing, road construction, territorial expansion and the laying of barbed wire in areas it considers its sovereign territory or where demarcation remains incomplete.

Cambodia urged the Cambodia‑Thailand Joint Boundary Commission to begin demarcation work urgently, citing bilateral agreements and a joint statement issued in December 2025. Cambodian officials also called for thorough verification of recent shooting and explosion incidents, pressing both sides to adopt measures to prevent recurrence and avoid escalation.

The ministry said Cambodia requested Thai cooperation in enforcing discipline among frontline forces to prevent provocative actions, including firing weapons or using hostile language. It added that both sides should work to curb disinformation and content that could fuel hostility.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to implementing previous agreements, including the 2025 peace accord, and said it remained dedicated to finding a peaceful and sustainable solution under international law.
