Cambodia, FBI agree to deepen cooperation against cybercrime and cross‑border crime

PHNOM PENH, July 22, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have pledged to strengthen security cooperation, focusing on cyber‑enabled fraud, transnational crime and drug trafficking.

Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet held talks with FBI Director Kash Patel at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, where both sides discussed future cooperation between Cambodian and US law enforcement agencies.

Patel thanked the Cambodian government for its collaboration with the FBI and praised Cambodia’s efforts to address technology‑based fraud.

He said cybercrime was a global challenge requiring international cooperation, not the responsibility of any single country.

The FBI director reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to continuing its partnership with Cambodian law enforcement and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to develop.

Samdech Thipadei welcomed progress in Cambodia–US ties across trade, investment, defence and security, and said Cambodia remained committed to tackling transnational crime, drug trafficking and online fraud.

He highlighted the importance of information sharing and capacity building for law enforcement.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also announced that Cambodia will host an international conference on combating technology‑based fraud in September 2026, aimed at promoting wider cooperation against a growing regional and global security threat.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei and Patel exchanged views on future security cooperation, stressing the importance of continued coordination, information exchange and training programmes for officials.
