GENEVA, March 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has voiced concerns over alleged human rights violations affecting its citizens near the Thai border during meetings at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, officials said Monday.

A delegation led by Keo Remy, president of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, held 29 bilateral meetings with international organisations, diplomats and UN experts during its mission from March 2–5.

Remy cited what he described as serious violations of international law by Thai authorities, including unilateral border closures, discrimination and violence against Cambodian migrant workers.

He also raised concerns over psychological intimidation, military actions damaging homes and infrastructure, and incidents affecting Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Officials said Cambodia opposed attempts to create “fait accompli” situations in disputed areas through barbed wire, shipping containers and demolition of local homes.

International representatives expressed concern and pledged to report the issues to their governments, stressing respect for sovereignty and dialogue under international law. Cambodian officials described the talks as constructive and positive.
