Cambodia PM Hun Manet holds investment talks with Shanghai firms

SHANGHAI, July 18, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met executives from three Shanghai companies on July 17 as his government sought to boost investment in infrastructure, telecommunications and logistics during his visit to China.
The talks were held on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which ran in Shanghai from July 15 to 17.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet first met Ye Weidong, president of Shanghai Construction Group (SCG), which has operated in Cambodia since 2004 and is building two national highways. Ye said SCG planned to expand investment in infrastructure.
Hun Manet welcomed the firm’s role and urged it to train local engineers and work closely with ministries on future projects.
In a separate meeting, the premier held talks with Jason Jie Zheng, chairman of Shanghai Spacesail Technologies, developer of the Qianfan low‑Earth orbit satellite constellation. Zheng said the company was exploring opportunities to provide satellite internet in Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said expanding reliable telecommunications was a priority and noted the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry was drafting a legal framework for satellite services.
Later, Samdech Thipadei met Fan Jinsheng, chairman of Shanghai Hantang Shipping, which operates in maritime transport and supply chains.
Fan expressed interest in Cambodia’s logistics sector and welcomed the Funan Techo Canal project.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet described logistics as strategic for economic growth and said the canal would form part of a wider economic corridor. He encouraged the company to continue talks with Cambodian authorities.
