Cambodia Rights Committee Accuses Thailand of Grave Abuses, Urges Global Pressure Over Border Attacks

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 8, 2025) — The Cambodian Human Rights Committee on Monday accused Thailand of committing severe human rights violations during recent border clashes and urged the international community to apply urgent pressure on Bangkok to halt its aggression.

In a statement, the committee said Thai forces carried out “inhumane, unlawful and violent” attacks against Cambodian territory and civilians on Dec. 7–8, describing the assaults as “criminal acts” that caused deaths and injuries.

The CHRC cited reports from CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Reuters and The Guardian confirming that Thai forces used heavy weapons, F 16 fighter jets and toxic smoke against Cambodian troops and villages. Officials said the actions violated the U.N. Charter, the ASEAN Charter, humanitarian conventions, bilateral treaties, cease fire agreements and the joint peace declaration signed in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The committee said the attacks undermine ASEAN’s core values of “One Vision, One Identity, One Community.” Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to honoring the cease fire and resolving disputes peacefully under international law.

The CHRC pledged to continue documenting violations and expressed solidarity with civilians affected by Thailand’s actions.
