Aug. 25, Sydney — Australia’s Export Finance Agency (EFA) expressed interest in expanding its engagement with Cambodia’s infrastructure and private sector development during a meeting Monday with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol.

The meeting, held as part of Cambodia’s investment roadshow in Australia, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in sustainable financing and export-linked investment. EFA Managing Director John Hopkins briefed the Cambodian delegation on the agency’s mandate to support Australian exports and infrastructure projects in partner countries through financing solutions and market gap coverage.

Sun outlined Cambodia’s current investment climate and emphasized the government’s strategic vision to position the country as a competitive destination for international capital. He highlighted Cambodia’s commitment to private sector-led growth and the government’s ongoing reforms to improve the ease of doing business.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both governments, including Cambodia’s ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, Australia’s ambassador to Cambodia, and representatives from key ministries and business associations.

Cambodia and Australia have steadily expanded their bilateral trade and investment ties, with total trade reaching nearly US$598 million in 2024, a 19.2% increase year-on-year. Cambodian exports to Australia—primarily garments, footwear, and agricultural products—rose by 31%, totaling US$487 million.

Australia has also deepened its investment footprint in Cambodia, particularly in infrastructure, education, and skills development, supported by institutions like Export Finance Australia and guided by the Australia–Cambodia Development Partnership Plan 2025–2029. Both governments continue to prioritize inclusive growth, regulatory reform, and private sector engagement as pillars of their economic cooperation.
