Chinese-Backed Aluminum Plant to Launch in Cambodia’s Coastal SEZ by Q4

Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia (Aug. 19, 2025) — A Chinese-invested aluminum processing plant is set to begin operations in Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province by the fourth quarter of 2025, following completion of environmental impact assessments and construction milestones, according to provincial deputy governor Long Dimanche.

The facility, located in the Bet Trang commune within the province’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ), spans over four hectares and is expected to create approximately 540 jobs. It will be the first aluminum processing plant in the SEZ and is designed to produce up to 150,000 tons annually, with initial capacity starting at 100,000 tons.

The plant will manufacture aluminum sheets and components tailored to customer specifications, targeting both domestic and international markets. Export destinations include the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

Deputy governor Long emphasized that the project underwent full environmental consultations and impact studies prior to approval. The investment aligns with Cambodia’s broader industrial diversification strategy and the government’s push to position Preah Sihanouk as a regional manufacturing and logistics hub.

The aluminum plant adds to a growing portfolio of advanced manufacturing projects in the province, which is central to Cambodia’s 2025–2038 development master plan for coastal industrial zones.
