PHNOM PENH, March 19, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Human Rights Committee (CHRC) has filed 60 complaints with regional and international bodies, accusing Thailand of violations along the shared frontier.

The announcement came during the committee’s annual meeting on March 17 in Phnom Penh.
Senior Minister Keo Remy, CHRC chairman, alleged Thai authorities had undermined Cambodia’s sovereignty and citizens’ rights through unilateral border closures, discrimination and violence against migrant workers, and reported shootings inside Cambodian territory.

He also cited loud noise disturbances, alleged use of heavy weaponry, and the occupation of Cambodian land, including damage to property and cultural sites.

Tens of thousands of displaced residents remain unable to return home despite a joint statement issued by both countries in December 2025, he said.

“Cambodia remains committed to resolving border disputes through peaceful means, in line with international law and bilateral agreements,” Remy said, adding that the complaints document Cambodia’s position and rejection of the alleged violations.

On March 19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a formal protest, accusing Thai forces of encroachment and unlawful occupation despite a ceasefire signed in late 2025.

The ministry said Thai troops had cleared land, built roads and permanent structures, and raised Thai flags in several frontier areas.

Government spokesman Pen Bona stressed Cambodia’s adherence to the December ceasefire and joint statement, saying: “We maintain a firm stance to ensure a proper and just solution and long-term peace.”
