Cambodia Urges World Bank to Fast‑Track Special Intervention Package Amid Oil Crisis
PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has asked the World Bank to accelerate preparation of a special intervention package in response to the global oil crisis triggered by conflict in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth made the request during talks with Tania Meyer, the World Bank’s country manager for Cambodia, on Apr.21. Meyer pledged cooperation with key development partners to support the government in designing urgent measures.
She briefed officials on study findings and proposed policy responses to mitigate the impact of the crisis, which has added pressure to Cambodia’s economy following earlier shocks from COVID‑19 and border tensions with Thailand.

Pornmoniroth praised the World Bank’s role as both a strong development partner and a “knowledge bank,” providing expertise across sectors. He noted Cambodia has already introduced emergency steps, including VAT exemptions on diesel and LPG supplies, despite revenue losses, to protect households and maintain stability.
He said the World Bank’s analysis will help shape a targeted intervention package to safeguard Cambodia’s medium‑ and long‑term growth.
