PHNOM PENH, June 1, 2026 (KPT) — Pich Chanmony Hun Manet has underscored the importance of peace in protecting children’s rights and supporting their development during a UNICEF ceremony marking International Children’s Day in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the event, held under the theme “Together for Every Child”, she congratulated Cambodia on the 77th International Children’s Day, the 25th World Day Against Child Labour and Cambodia Children’s Day 2026, observed under the message “Peace as the Foundation for Respecting and Protecting Children.”

She praised UNICEF’s long‑standing partnership with the Cambodian government, citing contributions to children’s health, nutrition, education, protection, clean water and sanitation. These efforts, she said, have improved access to essential services in recent years.

Highlighting the significance of peace, she noted it provides safety within families, access to education and opportunities for healthy growth. “For children, peace means being able to grow, learn and live without fear,” she said.

Reflecting on Cambodia’s past conflicts, she recalled how war left many children separated from families and deprived of homes, schools and public services. Such experiences, she said, limited opportunities and underscored the need to safeguard peace for future generations.

She added that maintaining peace remains essential for ensuring children’s rights, protection and long‑term development, adding that peace is the cornerstone for building a society where every child can thrive.
