PHNOM PENH, June 19, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has welcomed the peace agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at consolidating a ceasefire, easing tensions and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, describing the development as a positive step toward regional and global stability.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Cambodia consistently supports the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect.

“Cambodia has consistently supported the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect,” the spokesperson said, praising the efforts of those involved in facilitating the accord.

Cambodia expressed hope the agreement would be implemented in good faith and lead to durable peace, stressing that stability and freedom of navigation in the Middle East are vital for global security, economic growth and international trade.

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route, would help restore confidence in supply chains and contribute to stability in energy markets.

According to Reuters, the preliminary pact was announced on June 14, with a signing ceremony planned in Switzerland.

The framework calls for the permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, while deferring talks on Iran’s nuclear program. Oil prices fell more than 4 percent on the news, reflecting expectations of improved supply flows.

Cambodia urged all parties to maintain momentum through sustained dialogue and constructive engagement, with the aim of fostering lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
