Cambodia Bans Prize Promotions on Beer and Energy Drinks to Level Playing Field
PHNOM PENH, May 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has announced a ban on prize based promotions for beer and energy drinks, in a move aimed at ensuring fair competition and tightening oversight in the beverage sector.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said Monday that companies will no longer be allowed to offer rewards through packaging mechanisms such as ring-pulls, bottle caps or other promotional formats. Enterprises must phase out such campaigns by the end of the third quarter of 2026, with a full ban taking effect October 1.

From that date, firms will also be barred from importing, producing or ordering packaging that includes prize incentives. The measure applies to both alcoholic beverages, including beer, and sugary drinks such as energy beverages, which have commonly used prize campaigns as a marketing tool.
The Ministry said the policy is designed to create a more level playing field among businesses and promote stronger compliance with market regulations, while curbing aggressive marketing practices that distort competition.
