Cambodia Urges KOTRA to Draw More Korean Conglomerates
SEOUL, June 19, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol on Friday called on South Korea’s trade promotion agency KOTRA to help attract more major conglomerates to the Kingdom, particularly in high-value industries.
The appeal came during talks with KOTRA President Kang Kyung Sung in Seoul, wrapping up Cambodia’s investment promotion mission in South Korea.

Chanthol, who also serves as first vice chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, said Phnom Penh was keen to deepen economic ties with Seoul and highlighted reforms aimed at improving the business climate. He thanked KOTRA’s Phnom Penh office for linking Cambodian and Korean firms and urged more investment roadshows and business-matching programs.
He also encouraged greater use of the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and bilateral treaties on investment and taxation to boost trade and investment.
Kang praised Cambodia’s economic growth and new investment law, pledging closer cooperation with the CDC and the Cambodian embassy in Seoul.
Officials said the two sides also discussed shipbuilding as a potential sector for Cambodia’s future development, noting its role in supporting waterway transport.
South Korea is among Cambodia’s key economic partners in Asia, with Phnom Penh seeking to draw advanced manufacturing and high-value industries from the country.
