Cambodia’s Armed Forces Chief Praises Vietnam’s Role in ASEAN Border Observer Mission

PHNOM PENH, July 15, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has praised Vietnam’s contribution to an ASEAN monitoring mission aimed at supporting a ceasefire along the Cambodia–Thailand frontier, as two Vietnamese military officers completed their assignments in the Kingdom, officials said Wednesday.
Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Commander‑in‑Chief General Vong Pisen on Tuesday presented certificates of appreciation to Colonel Ngo Xuan Truong and Reserve Colonel Bieu Xuan Duong, members of the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia from Vietnam.
During the ceremony, Vong Pisen expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese government and the Vietnam People’s Army for sending officers to participate in the mission, describing their deployment as a reflection of ASEAN solidarity and shared responsibility in maintaining regional peace.
He highlighted the long‑standing ties between Cambodia and Vietnam, noting that the two neighbours have supported each other through periods of conflict and peace.
He said Vietnam’s participation in the observer mission demonstrated a commitment to promoting stability and preserving ASEAN’s role as a neutral regional platform.
The Cambodian military chief also commended ASEAN member states for their cooperation, saying their collective efforts showed unity in responding to regional challenges at a time of growing international uncertainty.
Vong Pisen praised the professionalism and dedication of the observer team, noting the personal sacrifices made by officers serving away from their families to help restore stability and normalcy along the border.
The ceremony concluded with the commander wishing the two Vietnamese officers success in future assignments and a safe return home.
