TOKYO, July 17, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Japan are deepening public‑private cooperation in healthcare through a medical exchange visit aimed at strengthening specialized services, promoting knowledge sharing and exploring greater Japanese investment, officials said Friday.

At the invitation of Japan’s Medical Group Taiichikai, a Cambodian delegation led by Health Ministry Secretary of State Professor Kuy Vanny began a study mission from July 16 to 18. The group includes senior ministry officials, representatives from national hospitals and the University of Health Sciences.

The visit focuses on exchanging expertise in orthopedics, emergency medicine, elderly care and rehabilitation – areas where Japan is regarded as a global leader with extensive experience in responding to an ageing population. The three‑day mission also seeks to boost collaboration between Cambodia’s public health sector and Japanese private providers through institutional cooperation and investment opportunities.

According to the Health Ministry, both sides highlighted the long‑standing friendship between Cambodia and Japan and welcomed stronger participation by Japanese healthcare investors in supporting Cambodia’s health development. The exchange is expected to improve the capacity of Cambodian medical professionals, modernize specialized services and strengthen rehabilitation care.

The visit comes as Cambodia expands international partnerships to reinforce its health system through human resource development, technology transfer and private‑sector participation. Japan has remained one of Cambodia’s closest development partners in the health sector, supporting hospital construction, medical training and system reforms over many years.
