PHNOM PENH, Feb 25, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral investment cooperation, convening the 31st Cambodia–Japan Joint Committee Meeting to address business climate reforms and bolster investor confidence, officials said Monday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board, and Ueno Atsushi, Japan’s ambassador to Cambodia. Around 200 participants attended, including representatives from ministries, the Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC), JICA, JETRO, and Japanese-invested enterprises.

Established under the 2007 bilateral investment agreement, the Joint Committee serves as a key forum to resolve investor concerns and improve the business environment. Cambodian officials highlighted reforms in taxation, logistics, energy supply, environmental governance and public security, alongside crackdowns on online scams and diplomatic efforts to ease border tensions.

Japanese representatives commended Cambodia’s responsiveness and reaffirmed support for expanding investment. Over three decades, Japan has evolved from a major development partner into one of Cambodia’s most significant economic and investment partners.

Both sides expressed optimism that strengthened dialogue will safeguard existing Japanese investments and attract new capital, contributing to industrial diversification and long-term growth.
