CDC Approves $200 Million Wind Farm as Cambodia Accelerates Clean Energy Drive

PHNOM PENH, Feb 11, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has approved a $200 million investment to build a 150-megawatt wind power plant in Mondulkiri province, marking a major step in the country’s push toward renewable energy.

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) cleared the project in January, paving the way for construction in Sen Monorom. Officials said the facility will create 42 local jobs and boost national grid capacity as electricity demand rises.

The approval follows the National Assembly’s endorsement last year of six wind projects in Mondulkiri with a combined planned capacity of 900 megawatts, positioning the highland province as a hub for wind energy thanks to favorable conditions.

Cambodia has set a target of sourcing 70 percent of its power from clean energy by 2030, with wind joining hydropower and solar as key pillars of the strategy.

Authorities say the projects will help offset delays in other energy developments, ensure reliable supply, and reduce reliance on imported electricity. They are also expected to lower costs for consumers and strengthen long-term energy security.
