PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 29, 2025) — Cambodia earned $163 million from fresh banana exports in the first 11 months of 2025, a 17.5% increase compared with the same period last year, according to a Ministry of Commerce report.

Khim Finan, spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said the rise in exports reflects strong demand in overseas markets.

Heng Davy, general manager of Long Sreng banana plantation in Stung Treng province, told local media that China and Japan are currently the company’s two main export destinations. She said the plantation harvests between 6,000 and 7,000 banana bunches daily for packaging, with shipments ranging from at least three containers a day to as many as 10 when demand peaks. Most exports go to China and Japan, while domestic consumption remains limited.

In 2024, Cambodia earned more than $138 million from banana exports, down over 11% from 2023.

Cambodia has about 16,000 hectares of banana plantations, with more than 11,000 hectares under harvest. The provinces with the largest cultivation areas include Ratanakiri, Kratie, Stung Treng, Kampot, Kampong Cham and Kampong Speu.
