PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 10, 2025) — Cambodia and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have concluded the Eco‑Industrial Parks “Light Touch” project, laying the groundwork for future phases that will transform Special Economic Zones into greener, more sustainable industrial hubs.

The one‑year initiative, supported by the Swiss Government through SECO, introduced international EIP principles to Cambodia’s industrial parks by raising awareness, reviewing policy gaps, mapping stakeholders, and benchmarking selected zones against global standards.

H.E. Dr. Tung Ciny, secretary of state at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, said the program builds on earlier greening‑industry efforts and shifts focus from individual factories to park‑wide systems. “EIP takes the greening momentum to another level by expanding from individual factories to park‑wide impact,” he said.

Officials emphasized that the next step will be coordinated implementation of full EIP practices, including resource efficiency, cleaner production, and shared infrastructure across zones. “Only collective and systematic efforts will make the EIP approach successful and beneficial for us all,” Tung added.

The closing workshop brought together government agencies, development partners, and SEZ operators to review findings and chart pathways toward more sustainable and inclusive industrial development. Organizers said the results will feed into upcoming national strategies designed to attract investment while reducing environmental impact.
