PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 13, 2025) — The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation convened the inaugural meeting of the Food Testing Laboratories Committee (FTLC) on Monday, aiming to accelerate the establishment and designation of official and reference food testing laboratories nationwide.

The meeting was chaired by Minister Hem Vanndy, who emphasized that food safety is a national priority requiring technical precision and institutional coordination.

“Our goal is to establish official and reference food testing laboratories nationwide, support their capacity, and ensure compliance through official designation,” Vanndy said.

He emphasized that food safety has a direct impact on consumer health and market confidence, and that accreditation based on technical standards is crucial to ensure laboratories operate with quality, reliability, and efficiency.

The committee endorsed a designation process that includes application, review, on-site inspection, and final certification for qualified laboratories.

Vanndy commended committee members for their commitment and urged the FTLC Secretariat to develop an annual work plan and regular meeting schedule to monitor progress.

He reiterated that national and international accreditation will be key to strengthening Cambodia’s food testing capacity, serving as a foundation for public health protection and consumer trust in food products.
