Chinese banking delegation explores investment opportunities in Cambodia’s financial sector
PHNOM PENH, Mar 18, 2026 (KPT) — A high‑level delegation from Bank of China is seeking new investment opportunities in Cambodia’s financial sector and ways to expand operations, officials said after talks in Phnom Penh.

The delegation, led by Sun Yu, Executive Director of Bank of China in Hong Kong, met with Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, on Mar.17 at the Wat Phnom headquarters. The visit aimed to deepen understanding of Cambodia’s financial potential and explore avenues for broader cooperation.

Sun Yu highlighted the strong performance of Bank of China’s operations in Cambodia and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting the country’s financial development in line with regulatory standards. He also raised the possibility of introducing new financial instruments and expanding the use of the riel in transactions.

Governor Serey welcomed the expansion plans, stressing the priority of promoting riel usage, maintaining exchange rate stability and safeguarding financial security to support economic growth. She also outlined Cambodia’s economic vision, noting both opportunities and challenges posed by regional geopolitical tensions and rising global oil prices.
