PHNOM PENH, April 7, 2026 (KPT) – Authorities are intensifying workplace safety measures with a renewed focus on tackling heat stress, industrial waste burning and fire hazards across factories and enterprises, officials said Tuesday.

The push was highlighted during an awareness session led by Chea Soknary, representing Labour Minister Heng Sour, and attended by more than 500 participants including factory managers, HR staff, safety teams and worker representatives.

Officials said rising temperatures and industrial risks are increasingly affecting worker health and productivity, making stronger safety systems essential. Key priorities include reinforcing occupational safety frameworks, tightening labour inspections and advancing a new occupational safety and health law with support from the International Labour Organization.

Authorities identified three major concerns: heat stress in workplaces, risks linked to fabric waste burning in boilers, and fire safety in industrial settings. Enterprises are being urged to adopt practical solutions such as improved ventilation, cooling measures, temperature monitoring and stronger fire prevention systems.

The ministry has stepped up inspections and warned of strict action against non-compliant factories, stressing that safer workplaces are vital for protecting workers, sustaining productivity and supporting economic growth.
