Fuel prices dip in Cambodia as government cuts taxes

PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – Fuel prices in Cambodia have edged down slightly as government tax reductions help cushion the impact of elevated global oil prices and market volatility, officials said Friday.

The ministries of economy and finance, commerce, and mines and energy announced that retail fuel prices were adjusted effective April 10.

Regular gasoline (Gasoline 92) is now priced at 5,200 riel ($1.30) per liter, down 300 riel, while diesel has fallen more sharply to 6,900 riel ($1.73) per liter, a decline of 1,300 riel.

The adjustments come despite international oil prices remaining above $90 per barrel for gasoline and over $100 per barrel for diesel, reflecting continued pressure from global markets.

Officials said the government has maintained a range of tax relief measures to ease the burden on consumers and businesses, including reducing fuel-related taxes, maintaining zero import duties, and providing subsidies to stabilize domestic prices.

Key measures include cutting the special tax on gasoline from 30 percent to 15 percent and eliminating it entirely for diesel, as well as reducing value-added tax on gasoline from 10 percent to 4 percent and removing it for diesel. The government is also absorbing part of the tax burden, covering up to 6 percent for gasoline and 10 percent for diesel.

The modest decline in domestic fuel prices also follows signs of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including a temporary ceasefire that has reopened shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, helping stabilize global energy markets.

Officials said the latest adjustment provides some relief to households and businesses, particularly in transport and logistics, which are highly sensitive to fuel costs.
