Cambodia’s Pepper Exports Surge 86% in Q1 as Demand Rebounds
PHNOM PENH, April 28, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s pepper exports surged nearly 86 percent in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting a strong rebound driven by tightening global supply and rising international demand, official data showed Tuesday.
The Ministry of Commerce said the country earned more than US$9 million from pepper exports between January and March, marking an 85.78 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam accounted for the majority of shipments, followed by Germany and France. Industry representatives said the growth was supported by improved prices and stronger orders amid declining global stock levels. Mak Ny, president of the Cambodia Pepper and Spices Federation, noted domestic prices had risen to around 25,000–26,000 riel (US$6.25–6.50) per kilogram.
Cambodia produces between 17,000 and 20,000 tons of pepper annually across more than 6,000 hectares, concentrated in provinces along the Vietnam border. About 81 percent of output comes from Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri and Tbong Khmum.
The country earned over US$31 million from pepper exports in 2025, down nearly 12 percent from 2024, according to the ministry. Cambodian pepper is prized for its quality, attributed to natural cultivation methods and fertile soil.
