Global Oil Surge Lifts Cambodia Fuel Prices by 250 Riel
PHNOM PENH, May 19, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia raised retail fuel prices by 250 riel per litre Tuesday as global oil costs continue to climb, piling pressure on domestic energy markets despite government subsidies and tax relief.
A joint statement from the ministries of Economy and Finance, Commerce, and Mines and Energy set regular gasoline at 5,400 riel (US$1.35) per litre and diesel at 5,450 riel (US$1.36). The new rates took effect May 19 and will remain until further notice.

The increase reflects international benchmarks rising above US$90 per barrel for gasoline and US$100 for diesel, forcing governments across the region to balance import costs with inflation risks.
Cambodian government continues to subsidize fuel by 6.5 US cents per litre, with an additional cent triggered when global prices breach those thresholds. Import duties and VAT on gasoline and diesel have been cut to zero, while the special tax on gasoline has been halved to 15 percent and eliminated for diesel.
Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said Cambodia is forfeiting between US$55 million and US$70 million in monthly revenue through tax and duty reductions to shield households and businesses from volatile global energy markets.
