PHNOM PENH, May 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia will host a major investment forum in Osaka next month aimed at attracting Japanese capital and reinforcing long‑term economic cooperation, officials said Thursday.

The Cambodia Investment Forum 2026 will take place on June 12 under the theme “Cambodia’s Investment Vision: Promoting Sustainable Growth and Strategic Partnership with Japan.” The event is jointly organized by the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Japan External Trade Organization.

JETRO chief representative Kohei Wakabayashi said Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol is expected to deliver the keynote address. Senior officials, business leaders and investors from both countries will join panel discussions on investment opportunities and cooperation.

A major focus will be food and agricultural product processing, reflecting Cambodia’s push to attract higher‑value manufacturing and agro‑industrial investment. Key speakers include Mey Kalyan, Hiroshi Uematsu, representatives from Forval Cambodia and Chocorico, as well as Kampong Thom governor Nuon Pharat.

The forum will also discuss plans for a new special economic zone in Kampong Thom province, part of Cambodia’s strategy to diversify industrial growth beyond Phnom Penh and border provinces.

Japan remains a key economic partner, with bilateral trade reaching US$2.53 billion in 2025, up 17 percent year‑on‑year. Earlier this year, Japan launched a Business Co‑Creation Team initiative to strengthen investor confidence and expand cooperation with Cambodia amid regional uncertainties.
