Wanderlust Magazine Names Cambodia to Travel Green List 2026
PHNOM PENH, May 22, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has won fresh international tourism recognition after being named one of only two ASEAN countries featured in Wanderlust Magazine’s prestigious Travel Green List 2026, alongside the Philippines, officials said Friday.
The annual list by the UK’s longest‑running travel magazine highlights destinations worldwide that set high standards for responsible, sustainable and conservation‑driven tourism. This year’s selection spotlighted Botum Sakor National Park and the Cardamom Tented Camp as standout examples of eco‑hospitality in the region.

Wanderlust described the camp as offering immersive rainforest experiences — from safari‑style accommodation and river activities to wildlife observation — while directly supporting ranger patrols and long‑term conservation across 1,800 square kilometres of the Cardamom Mountains. The magazine said the camp’s low‑impact model shows how tourism can contribute to environmental protection and community sustainability.
Cambodia welcomed about 1.16 million international visitors in the first quarter of 2026, led by arrivals from China, Vietnam, Thailand and the United States. The figure reflects a modest recovery despite regional challenges, with eco‑tourism initiatives increasingly promoted to diversify beyond heritage sites such as Angkor Wat.
Beyond the Green List, Cambodia was also featured in a 15‑page country showcase, one of only three destinations globally selected for an extensive profile aimed at conscious travellers. The feature promotes Cambodia as more than a cultural stopover, encouraging exploration of eco‑tourism during the increasingly popular Green Season.
The recognition follows Cambodia’s top global ranking in the Natural Environment category of the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Countries index, further strengthening its international tourism profile.
