Cambodia Customs Marks 75 Years as Revenue Collection Surges
PHNOM PENH, June 22, 2026 (KPT) – The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) has celebrated its 75th anniversary, underscoring its transformation into a modern institution and its growing role in national revenue collection.
The ceremony at GDCE headquarters was presided over by Minister Delegate Kun Nhem, who reviewed the department’s history since its establishment in 1951 through a royal decree by King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

He highlighted reforms in trade facilitation, governance and modernization, noting that collections in 2025 were nearly 16 times higher than in 2000, reflecting Cambodia’s economic growth, expanding international trade and stronger customs administration.
Nhem paid tribute to past generations of officers for their dedication and sacrifice, while stressing the department’s commitment to integrity and professionalism. He said customs reforms had been advanced under successive governments, with strong backing from Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, former Prime Minister and current Senate President Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Hun Manet.
In a congratulatory message, Pornmoniroth praised customs officials for modernizing procedures, combating smuggling and tax evasion, and strengthening revenue collection. He said their efforts had boosted competitiveness and contributed significantly to Cambodia’s economic development.
Officials pledged to continue advancing reforms, improving trade facilitation and safeguarding state revenues. As Cambodia’s customs administration enters its 75th year, the GDCE vowed to build on its legacy and support the government’s long‑term development agenda.
