PHNOM PENH, Mar. 13, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has sent 48 peacekeepers, including 24 women, to join a United Nations mission in South Sudan, as another contingent returned home after completing a year-long deployment, officials said Thursday.

The outgoing troops are from Unit 874, while 73 personnel from Unit 872 — including 34 women — arrived back in Phnom Penh after serving in South Sudan.

A ceremony marking the rotation was held on March 12 at Techo International Airport, attended by Lt Gen Sem Ratana, First Vice-Chairman of the National Committee and Acting Director-General of the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and ERW Clearance.

Conveying greetings from Prime Minister Hun Manet and senior leaders, Sem Ratana praised the returning peacekeepers for successfully completing their mission.

He urged the departing troops to uphold discipline, unity and cooperation with international colleagues during their deployment.

He also thanked ministries and institutions supporting the forces, particularly the Ministry of Health for providing regular malaria testing.

Addressing the new contingent, he reminded them to follow national guidance, safeguard unit property, and maintain clean and orderly living quarters at the mission site.

Cambodia has contributed personnel to United Nations peacekeeping operations for more than a decade, underscoring its commitment to global peace and security.
