PHNOM PENH, Mar. 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s government has urged greater investment in nurseries to protect and develop young children, highlighting their role in early education, family support and national development.

The call was made during a national workshop in Phnom Penh attended by more than 200 participants, including officials, institutional leaders and development partners.

The event was held under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and chaired by Labor Minister Heng Sour.

Hang Chuon Naron said modern nursery services go beyond childcare, providing early childhood education through play, social and emotional development, and comprehensive health, nutrition and hygiene support.

He described strengthened nursery management as a milestone in implementing Prime Minister Hun Manet’s guidance for the benefit of Cambodia’s next generation.

Heng Sour emphasized the importance of raising awareness among employers, nursery operators and stakeholders about effective management practices.

He pointed to government policies supporting women and working mothers, including phased subsidies for pregnant workers, maternity leave protections and workplace nurseries, citing the Marvel Garment Factory as a model in 2025.

Both ministers called for continued cooperation and increased investment to expand equitable, high‑quality nursery services nationwide.

Officials said the initiative aims to provide safe, nurturing environments and early learning opportunities for infants and young children, ensuring they receive the care and education needed to thrive.
