PHNOM PENH, March 11, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and the United Nations have pledged to deepen cooperation on development priorities, including support for returning migrant workers, displaced communities along the Thai border, and preparations for Cambodia’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by 2029.

Planning Minister Bin Trachey met Tuesday with Vladanka Andreeva, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, alongside representatives from UN agencies including UNFPA, UNICEF, FAO and WFP.

Bin Trachey reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with the UN to implement national policies and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stressed the need for coordinated support to restore livelihoods and create jobs for returning workers.

Andreeva expressed solidarity with affected communities and confirmed UN backing for reintegration and livelihood initiatives. She said the UN would provide a report on Cambodia’s SDG progress to be jointly reviewed with the ministry before further action.

Discussions also covered preparations for Cambodia’s Smooth Transition Strategy and Voluntary National Review, which will be presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2027. The UN confirmed technical support for these initiatives.

Other priorities included strengthening national data systems and improving nutrition through the National Strategy on Food Fortification 2025–2030.

Officials said the meeting concluded in a “friendly and productive atmosphere,” underscoring a shared commitment to advancing Cambodia’s socio-economic development and SDG targets.
