PHNOM PENH, March 3 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has announced plans to establish a modern, school-based inspection system aimed at driving reform and improving education quality.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron outlined the initiative during a meeting on March 2, saying the system will combine subject-based and school-based evaluations to create a comprehensive quality assurance framework.

“The modern school inspection system is not merely a mechanism for accountability, but also a catalyst for school reform, professional development, and continuous improvement,” Chuon Naron said. He added that oversight bodies will jointly implement the new system.

The framework will set common evaluation standards, reform training programmes, and establish accreditation procedures for inspectors.

Technical working groups have been advised to align the inspection model with “model school” standards to strengthen teaching, learning, management and student performance.

Chuon Naron stressed that effective inspection should be developmental, evidence-based and closely linked to school improvement and wider education reforms.

Direct school visits will be conducted from the start of the academic year to assess performance, identify gaps and provide targeted support.

The ministry said the reform aims to ensure schools meet minimum standards while promoting sustainable improvements across Cambodia’s education system.
