Cambodia Urges ASEAN and UN Support as Majority of Displaced Citizens Return Home

PHNOM PENH, Feb 12, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has called on ASEAN, the United Nations and the wider international community to support peaceful dialogue with Thailand, as the majority of citizens displaced by recent border clashes have returned home.

The Ministry of Interior said in its latest update that more than 87 percent of displaced people – around 560,000 of over 640,000 – have reintegrated into their communities following the December 27 ceasefire. However, 82,306 people, including women and children, remain unable to return.

No new destruction of civilian infrastructure has been reported since December 7, though schools and health centers in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces remain temporarily closed.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully and backed the government’s protest against alleged violations of the December 27 General Border Committee agreement.

Prime Minister Hun Manet stressed that the Cambodia–Thailand border is an international boundary between sovereign states and warned that territorial integrity must not be altered by force.

Phnom Penh urged ASEAN, the UN and international partners to continue supporting dialogue to safeguard regional stability.
