Japan Funds Irrigation and Girls’ Dormitory Projects to Boost Rural Livelihoods in Cambodia
PHNOM PENH, Feb 6, 2026 (KPT) — Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi on Friday signed two grant contracts under Japan’s KUSANONE program to support irrigation rehabilitation in Banteay Meanchey and the construction of a girls’ dormitory in Mondulkiri, with total assistance worth US$301,904.
The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of Japan, where the ambassador concluded agreements with the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Mondulkiri Provincial Training Center.

The first project will rehabilitate the Ou Srolao Chhrom irrigation facilities in Banteay Meanchey, aiming to improve water access for farming communities and strengthen agricultural productivity. The second project will build a dormitory and provide essential equipment for female students in Mondulkiri, expanding safe accommodation and learning conditions for young women pursuing vocational education.
Officials said the grants are expected to improve daily living conditions in the project areas while reinforcing grassroots development through better water management and access to education.
The initiatives form part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE), which supports community level infrastructure and social services across Cambodia, further strengthening Japan–Cambodia cooperation.
