Cambodia protests Thai actions at Ta Krabei Temple
PHNOM PENH, Jan 22, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia on Thursday lodged a formal protest against Thailand over what it described as acts of aggression at Ta Krabei Temple, accusing the Thai military of violating international law by attempting to acquire territory through force.
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts said the temple had suffered near-total destruction following shelling by Thai forces. It condemned both direct damage to the ancient structure and the construction of infrastructure in the surrounding area.

Ta Krabei Temple, the ministry noted, is a protected archaeological site and a sacred place of worship long revered by Cambodians. It warned that any military occupation or alteration of the site’s status constituted a serious breach of international law.
Cambodia demanded that Thailand immediately halt all activities in and around the temple, which it insisted lies within Cambodian sovereign territory.
The ministry urged Bangkok to resolve border disputes peacefully and in line with the Franco-Siamese Treaties of 1904 and 1907.
