Cambodia Rejects Threats, Urges Concrete Actions to Sustain Ceasefire
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan. 3, 2026) — Cambodia on Friday reaffirmed its opposition to the use of force and threats in any form, calling for concrete and sincere actions from both sides to sustain the ceasefire with Thailand as border conditions remain under close monitoring.
The Ministry of National Defense said Cambodia continues to uphold the ceasefire agreement that took effect Dec. 27, 2025, along with all related peace commitments between the two countries.

Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said Cambodian forces remain on high alert along the Cambodia–Thailand border to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity while ensuring full compliance with the ceasefire.
She stressed that respecting and implementing the ceasefire is a shared responsibility, urging both sides to demonstrate goodwill through actions rather than words.
“Any actions that run contrary to the spirit of the ceasefire must be halted immediately to ensure its sustainability,” she said, adding that Cambodia will continue working with Thailand and relevant partners to resolve outstanding issues peacefully in accordance with international law.
The ministry underscored the need to promote confidence-building measures to strengthen peace, stability and security, paving the way for normalization of bilateral relations in the future.
Cambodia said it will further strengthen the role of the ASEAN Observer Team in monitoring and verifying implementation of the ceasefire and related agreements, while welcoming support from friendly countries.
Lt. Gen. Socheata reiterated that Cambodia rejects the use of force and threats under any pretext, reaffirming Phnom Penh’s commitment to a fair, impartial and lasting peaceful solution with Thailand.
