PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 19, 2025) — As tensions persist along the Cambodia–Thailand border, Cambodia and the United States marked 75 years of diplomatic relations Friday with the opening of the newly expanded AmCam Exchange, underscoring education and people-to-people engagement as pillars of bilateral ties.

The event in Phnom Penh highlighted how cooperation in education and human capital development endures despite regional uncertainty, positioning youth and dialogue as anchors of peace and stability.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron welcomed the expansion as a symbol of friendship and expressed appreciation for U.S. solidarity during a difficult period.

“I would like to thank Her Excellency for expressing her condolences and sympathy for those affected by the fighting at the border,” Naron said, noting that the anniversary reflects enduring friendship and growing cooperation between the two nations.

He emphasized that relations have evolved over 75 years on the basis of mutual respect, sovereignty, peace, stability and sustainable development, with education at the core of strategic cooperation.

Chargé d’Affaires Bridgette L. Walker echoed the sentiment, stressing that the anniversary theme, “We the People,” underscores shared values and the importance of people-to-people ties during times of conflict. She reaffirmed U.S. support for Cambodia’s youth through education, STEM, entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

With expanded capacity, modern design and free access to learning resources and EducationUSA advising, the AmCam Exchange stands as a practical demonstration of unity through education — reinforcing that the strength of Cambodia–U.S. relations lies not only in diplomacy, but in everyday connections between their peoples.
