Cambodia Hosts ASEAN Team for Border Inspection in Battambang

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.5,2025)— Cambodia has hosted an ASEAN Observation Team for an inspection mission along the Cambodian-Thai frontier, the Ministry of National Defence said Friday.

The ministry said Cambodia facilitated the visit to Border Posts 52 and 53 in Kamrieng District, Battambang Province, opposite Thailand’s Chanthaburi Province.
Cambodia remains committed to upholding “the highest standards of professional integrity” in managing border affairs, the statement said, adding that national interests, territorial integrity, and sovereignty remain top priorities.

The mission was coordinated by the Secretariat of State for Border Affairs and Cambodia’s Joint Border Commission. Officials reaffirmed that Cambodia continues to abide by international law and the Cambodia–Thailand boundary as recognized by the historical Indochina–Siamese Border Commission.

On Dec. 5, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, said the Cambodia Liaison Group facilitated a briefing for the ASEAN team in Serei Saophoan City, Banteay Meanchey Province.

Prum Soeun Vathna, head of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Survey Team, presented updates on marking border posts No. 52–59 in Kamrieng and Boeung Raing communes. She said that from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, joint survey teams conducted drone-based aerial photography to produce a photomap of the section, covering about 6.4 kilometers, or 76% of the planned work.

Earlier, from Nov. 8 to 26, ground surveys were carried out along an 8.3-kilometer stretch, during which 166 temporary border markers were installed.

Socheata said the update was intended to inform the public and both national and international media about the ongoing demarcation efforts.
