Floods Hit Nine Cambodian Provinces; Siem Reap Worst Affected

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.30, 2025) — Severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall has affected nine provinces in Cambodia, with Siem Reap suffering the most damage, a government official said.

Flooding from Sept. 26 to 28 impacted 40 districts across Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, Kratie, Prey Veng, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Mondulkiri, Banteay Meanchey and Tboung Khmum provinces, according to Soth Kimkolmony, spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management.

A total of 21,357 households were affected and 1,037 families evacuated. Floodwaters damaged 17,348 homes, 12,791 hectares of rice fields — including 267 hectares destroyed — and key infrastructure such as roads, schools and health centers.

In Siem Reap province, 6,142 households across 11 districts were affected. More than 6,000 homes, 46 schools, five health centers and nearly 4,000 hectares of rice fields were damaged. More than 71 kilometers (44 miles) of roads were also impacted.

Kratie province reported 4,315 affected households, 1,059 hectares of flooded rice fields and more than 67 kilometers of damaged rural roads. In Stung Treng, 2,771 households were affected, with damage to more than 4,800 hectares of rice and mixed crops. Prey Veng saw 365 households impacted, along with significant damage to embankments and riverbanks.

Kampong Thom reported 1,665 affected households, 1,136 hectares of rice fields damaged and 40 kilometers of rural roads affected.
Mondulkiri, Banteay Meanchey and Tboung Khmum also reported crop and infrastructure losses. In Tboung Khmum, 552 families were evacuated.

Local and provincial disaster committees have mobilized emergency responses, conducted site assessments and are monitoring the situation to provide timely relief and support recovery efforts, officials said.
