Ministry of National Defence, Kingdom of Cambodia Statement by Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 27, 2025) — The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia expresses deep concern over recent border tensions allegedly provoked by Thailand, including continued gunfire originating from the Thai side.

At 11:52 a.m. on Sept. 27, Thai forces reportedly launched an attack on Cambodian troops and subsequently accused Cambodia of initiating the exchange. The ministry warns that such actions threaten the integrity of existing ceasefire agreements and risk escalating the situation.
Cambodia calls on the ASEAN Interim Observers Team to conduct a forensic investigation into the incident, with particular attention to the types of ammunition used and the direction of fire. The ministry urges a transparent and impartial review to ensure accountability and fairness for both nations. Cambodia also encourages Thailand to cooperate fully in this process.
Following the spirit of the Sept. 10 General Border Committee meeting, where both sides agreed in principle to the Terms of Reference, Cambodia urges the swift formation of the ASEAN Observers Team to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement in both word and action.
Cambodian forces reaffirm their commitment to uphold the ceasefire and continue close cooperation with Thailand. The ministry emphasizes the importance of joint efforts to restore peace, stability and normalcy along the border.
