Cambodia Adopts 21 International Standards to Spur Industrial Growth
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 3) — The National Standards Council has approved 21 international standards for adoption as Cambodian national standards, aiming to strengthen industrial competitiveness and support local production.

The decision was made during a council meeting chaired by Hem Vanndy, minister of industry, science, technology and innovation, who also serves as council chairman.
The newly adopted standards—sourced from ISO, IEC and ISO/IEC—cover a broad range of sectors, including chemicals, energy management, electrical and electronic products, automotive components, cosmetics, bamboo furniture and textiles.
“These standards are vital foundations for Cambodia’s progress and the sovereignty of our manufacturing sector, particularly at a time of strong national unity and support for local products,” Hem said.
“By applying these standards, Cambodian businesses can better integrate into domestic and international supply chains while safeguarding public health, promoting consumer safety and enhancing overall competitiveness,” he added.
The council also endorsed the creation of three new national committees to bolster Cambodia’s participation in international standardization bodies such as ISO, IEC and Codex.
The move supports Cambodia’s goal of becoming a full ISO member and an associate member of the IEC by 2026.
