AIIB Explores Opportunities to Strengthen Cooperation With Cambodia

TIANJIN, China (Aug. 31, 2025) — Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Jin Liqun, chairman of the board and president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held Aug. 30–Sept. 1 in Tianjin.

During the meeting, Jin expressed his gratitude to Hun Manet for taking time from his schedule to meet with the AIIB delegation and welcomed the prime minister’s official visit to Tianjin.

Jin said the bank is pleased to continue collaborating with Cambodia on key development projects, particularly in infrastructure. He also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in social infrastructure, including support for modern education initiatives.

Hun Manet welcomed the opportunity to meet with Jin and emphasized that infrastructure remains a top priority for Cambodia’s development, citing roads, highways and bridges as critical areas. He also highlighted ongoing government efforts, including the construction of new international airports and the Funan Techo Canal project, aimed at boosting industrial and logistics growth.

The prime minister noted that human capital development has been a core priority of the Cambodian government across successive mandates. He outlined recent education reform policies spanning primary to secondary levels, vocational training programs and improvements to basic health care services, particularly at the grassroots level.

Hun Manet said investing in a skilled and competent workforce is essential to meet the demands of Cambodia’s growing industrial sector.

Before concluding, he expressed appreciation for AIIB’s interest in expanding cooperation and encouraged the bank to continue working closely with relevant ministries and institutions to develop practical and impactful partnerships.
