PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 20, 2025) — The Skills Development Fund (SDF) is rolling out a new bundled solution program aimed at boosting Cambodia’s automotive industry and supporting domestic economic growth, officials said Wednesday.

During a meeting with RMA Cambodia CEO Ngorn Sang, SDF executives discussed supply chain challenges in the automotive, agricultural machinery, and heavy equipment sectors. The session focused on workforce gaps and technical skill shortages affecting maintenance and repair services across the country.

SDF introduced its upcoming “Queen Bee” initiative, designed to connect small and medium-sized enterprises with large industry players. The program will offer integrated solutions to improve productivity and quality across supply chains, helping businesses scale and meet industrial standards.

Ngorn said RMA Cambodia has expanded operations nationwide but faces a shortage of skilled technicians to service vehicles and machinery. He emphasized the need for certified professionals who meet company standards before becoming official service partners.

RMA Cambodia also expressed interest in collaborating with SDF to enhance workforce training. The company plans to submit a list of operational challenges for SDF to review and address through targeted support.

As part of its expansion, RMA Cambodia recently opened a Ford assembly plant in Pursat province, creating more than 500 jobs for local residents. In partnership with four vocational institutions, SDF has co-financed 50% of training costs for two specialized programs: automotive repair and maintenance, and electrical installation for vehicles. A total of 360 RMA Cambodia employees are currently enrolled.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen Cambodia’s industrial base and meet rising demand for skilled labor in the automotive sector.

RMA (Cambodia) Plc. officially launched a new Ford production line and sub-assembly plant in Krakor District, Pursat Province on April 22, 2025, marking a major expansion of its automotive manufacturing operations.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister Hun Manet, highlighted the company’s growing investment—rising from $21 million in 2022 to $26.8 million—to modernize facilities and increase production capacity to over 10,000 vehicles annually. According to the Prime Minister, Cambodia is now home to nine car assembly plants.

The plant spans 12 hectares and has already assembled 7,492 vehicles, including Ford Ranger and Everest models.
