PHNOM PENH, August 11, 2025 — Turkish Airlines and Etihad Airways are set to begin direct flights to Phnom Penh following the official opening of Cambodia’s new Techo International Airport on September 9, 2025.

According to Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, Cambodia currently hosts 32 domestic and international airlines. With the addition of Turkish Airlines and Etihad Airways, the country is poised to welcome more major carriers as Techo International Airport becomes operational.

The airport will conduct its first Airbus A320 test flight on August 15 in preparation for its launch. “As a Class 4F airport, Techo will be capable of handling long-haul flights from across regions and continents,” Havannall said.

The $2 billion Techo International Airport spans 2,600 hectares and is being developed in three phases. Phase I, now complete, will accommodate up to 13 million passengers annually. Phase II will expand capacity to 30 million passengers per year, and Phase III—scheduled for 2050—will support up to 50 million passengers annually.

In the first half of 2025, Cambodia recorded over 3.6 million air passengers, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The Civil Aviation Secretariat projects total passenger traffic to reach 7.5 million by the end of the year.
