PHNOM PENH, March 17, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Japan are exploring ways to expand trade and investment ties, with a focus on boosting exports of premium Cambodian products, officials said Friday.

Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the Export Promotion Task Force, met Shinichiro Ishikawa at the ministry, in a session facilitated by Confirel Co., Ltd and attended by senior officials and technical experts.

Talks centered on strengthening business to business linkages and increasing the presence of Cambodian goods in the Japanese market. Particular attention was given to Geographical Indication products and agro industrial goods such as Kampot pepper and Kampong Speu palm sugar.

Officials stressed the importance of improving value chains and enhancing value added production to meet Japanese and international standards.

The meeting also highlighted successful cooperation models between international firms and local enterprises, including Confirel, to scale Cambodian products globally.

The ministry said the partnership approach aims to elevate production quality and ensure “Made in Cambodia” products remain competitive worldwide.
