MONDULKIRI, Mar 24, 2026 (KPT) — Officials said Tuesday that Cambodia has stressed its commitment to human rights and non discrimination as tensions continue along the border with Thailand.

Keo Remy, president of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, presided over a workshop in Mondulkiri to publicize Cambodia’s national report on implementing international conventions against racial discrimination.

He reaffirmed Phnom Penh’s adherence to international human rights instruments, including the convention ratified in 1983, and said the government maintains a strict stance against racial discrimination even during ongoing border disputes.

Remy noted directives from Prime Minister Hun Manet require officials and the public to comply with the law without discrimination, ensuring protection for Thai nationals in Cambodia, including those detained in prisons.

He contrasted Cambodia’s approach with alleged Thai violations of international and humanitarian law, citing incidents of soldier detentions, violence against Cambodian laborers and border harassment.

He highlighted Cambodia’s diplomatic and legal efforts to defend sovereignty, including 60 petitions and missions to Geneva, and 29 bilateral meetings with UN bodies to report Thai actions.

Remy expressed appreciation to provincial authorities for supporting public awareness of Cambodia’s human rights achievements and encouraging local participation.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s determination to recover Cambodian territory allegedly occupied by Thailand and urged public trust in Phnom Penh’s ability to resolve disputes
